Public advised on A&E admissions to Mayo University Hospital

CONCERN has been expressed that fewer patient with non-Covid acute medical conditions are presenting at Mayo University Hospital.

Catherine Donohoe, general manager of the Castlebar facility, said it is important the public is fully aware that the hospital is split into Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 sections, with separate admission entrances.

She told The Connaught Telegraph: “We are fearful that some patients with acute and emergency conditions are not presenting at the hospital since the outbreak of the virus.

“Patients who suffer minor strokes or have chest pains, for example, should attend as normal to avoid their health being damaged any further.

"Our established emergency department is working as normal and patients should have no worries in presenting there.”
