Western Alzheimers support for families living with dementia during Covid-19
WESTERN Alzheimers has issued a statement outlining support for families living with Dementia during the Covid-19 crisis.
It states: "The coronavirus has resulted in various restrictions including the scaling back or closure of a number of important services.
"People living with dementia who have little knowledge or capability of modern telecommunications and depend primarily on in-person support might feel lonely and abandoned, and become withdrawn.
"In the case of primary carers the dual stress of caring for a loved one with dementia and the fear of infection can result in exhaustion and burnout.
"During this challenging time people living with dementia and their family carers will require continued support.
"Western Alzheimers have commenced a telephone service where you can contact a Dementia Nurse Specialist or a Family Support Specialist who will discuss any concerns that you have, provide practical help and advice and signpost you to other appropriate services."
These numbers can be called Monday to Saturday between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
