Swinford football duo launch virtual training sessions

A MAYO soccer coach and his son are bringing virtual football training into the homes and gardens of players everywhere.

Martin Doherty is an Under 13s coach with Swinford FC and he and son Luke have launched a new YouTube channel, Garden Football. So there's no excuse not to keep on top of training!

Martin and Luke – and there are occasional appearances by mum Annette and daughter Katie – are posting drills and training sessions online.

To date, they include the five ball challenge, bucket challenge, tyre challenge, crossbar challenge and working on those volleys.

The five ball challenge, in particular, caught the attention – try out your ball control with everything from a tennis ball to a yoga ball and everything in between!

The virtual training sessions are a positive outlet for all in the community – young and old - during the week and a timely addition to helping us all stay active and healthy.

So whether you're a young Messi, or just looking for some fun football to do with mum or dad, tune in and get working on your footie skills.
