Eastern Gaels' solo run for group home/meals on wheels
MEMBERS of Eastern Gaels GAA Club are going on a charity solo run this weekend.
The GoSolo Run in aid of Brickens Group Home/Meals on Wheels takes place on Sunday, May 17.
Players from Eastern Gaels will be running from their home to the next player's home soloing a football around Brickens, Bekan and Logboy.
Due to social distancing only one player will be running at a time and they will be hand passing the ball two metres on to the next player.
All funds raised will be donated to Brickens Group Home and Meals on Wheels and all support is greatly appreciated.
Brickens Meals on Wheels operates in a large rural area, taking in Claremorris, Ballyhaunis, Knock, Kilkelly, Tooreen, Aughamore, Cloonfad, Irishtown and surrounding villages. They also supply an outreach service to Kilmovee.
Two vans are covering over 250kms between them and since the pandemic there has been an increase in demand for services, with more than 100 meals going out every day.
Elderly people who are cocooning are really seeing the benefit of having a hot nutritious meal delivered seven days a week, reducing the need for shopping trips.
The group also provide a laundry service where they collect washing and return it the next day. And they have also set up a group where they can match volunteers in the community to anyone who needs shopping, etc.
Help them respond to all who need their help and allow people to stay in their homes to stay safe until it is safe to be out again.
