Injured farmer airlifted from Slieve Alp in north Mayo

EMERGENCY services responded to a call-out after a farmer suffered an injury while on Slieve Alp, near Ballcroy.

The casualty was airlifted to Galway for hospital treatment having sustained a leg injury.

Mayo Mountain Rescue (MMRT) were tasked just before 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday by Malin Head Coastguard to assist Rescue 118 on Slieve Alp.

Inland Fisheries Ireland staff working nearby were first on the scene and were able to provide assistance to the casualty, a local farmer, while R118 was tasked along with the National Ambulance Service and fire brigade.

R118 airlifted ambulance and fire brigade personnel to the scene and treated the casualty.

MMRT tasked a first response and stretcher party to assist and on arrival at the scene, provided assistance to the emergency services personnel in transporting the casualty to the helicopter.

In a report on social media on the call—out, MMRT thanked all the services and IFI personnel involved and extended best wishes to the casualty for a speedy recovery.
