United Against Racism Black Lives Matter Mayo demonstration cancelled
DUE to the very high level of interest leading to concerns that social distancing may be compromised, United Against Racism Mayo have decided to cancel the public demonstration due to be held on Saturday, June 6, at 3 p.m. on the Mall in Castlebar.
Instead, they are asking the public to show their solidarity with the black people of America by sharing pictures or videos of themselves at that time with supportive posters or banners to social media platforms using the following hashtags:
#AllEyezOnUSA
#BlackLivesMatter
#JusticeForFloyd
#RunWithMaud
#StandWithBre
United Against Racism Mayo are also asking people to voice their opposition using the hashtag #EndDirectProvision to institutional racism in Ireland such as that experienced by residents of direct provision, asylum seekers, the Travelling community and Roma people.
