Ballinrobe Mart holds first sale under new Covid regulations

BALLINROBE Mart held its first cattle sale under the new Covid-19 regulations last Wednesday, with buyers in around the ring all adhering to the social distancing regulations.

This was combined with online bidding and the mart reports that it found it worked very well.

Sellers were also allowed in to sell their livestock, again strictly adhering to the regulations.

Examples of heifer prices from Wednesday's sale included: Limousin cross 515kg €1,120; Charolais 480kg €1,070; Aberdeen Angus 445kg €930; Hereford cross 370kg €775.

Bullocks: Limousin cross 445kg €1,080; Aberdeen Angus cross 595kg €1,240; Charolais 380kg €925.

Top price in the dry cows went to a Charolais cross, 740kg, that made €1,340. A Limousin cow with a Charolais bull calf at foot made €1,520.

Best price in the weanling bulls was for a 325kg Charolais cross, making €850.

Cattle sales continue each Wednesday with pre-booking on Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. on 094 95 41140.

Sheep sales will now take place on Thursdays, commencing on Thursday, June 18. All sheep will be weighed and sold through the ring.
