Mayo woman raises over €9,000 for breast cancer research

Over €9,000 has been raised to date by a Mayo woman for breast cancer research after she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent surgery.

Caroline Joyce, Turlough, Castlebar, has begun chemotherapy and has six months of treatments ahead.

Yet she is determined to do all she can in helping the National Breast Cancer Research Institute develop a microwave scan for early detection of cancers such as invasive lobular, which she was diagnosed with.

This scan could save sisters, mums, daughters and friends.

Earlier this week, Caroline held a sponsored head shave with the assistance of her partner Chris and it raised €9,161, exceeding the initial target of €7,500.

"I take this opportunity to thank everybody who supported the fundraising appeal.

"The response has been tremendous," a delighted Caroline stated.
