Kieran wins president's prize as competitive golf returns to Castlebar

THE first big competition of the golfing season post the Covid lockdown took place at Castlebar Golf Club over the weekend when Jimmy Walsh hosted his president’s prize.

Over 180 golfers took part over two days - all observing social distance both on course and in the clubhouse – as Kieran Horkan emerged as winner on 68 points (back 9).

Second spot went to Tom Devaney (68) and other prize-winners were: gross Shane O’Connor playing off +1 - 73, 3rd Ian MacDonagh 69, 4th Martin Clarke 64, 5th Alan Tuffy 65, 6th James Gallagher 68, past president Jim Tierney 73, 7th Karl Benson 69, 8th Paddy Grogan 69, junior Tommy Heneghan 66.

A prize-giving ceremony will be arranged in the future.

Competitive golf resumed at the club last Tuesday (June 30).

As well as returning to competitive golf, the club is also approaching the opening of its full new 18-hole course.
