Mayo IFA welcome Calleary appointment

THE Mayo IFA county chairman, Jarlath Walsh, from Knock, has congratulated the new Minister for Agriculture, Dara Calleary, on his appointment.

“We look forward to working with the new minister to ensure that we harness the full potential of our farming sector,” said said.

Brendan Golden, the IFA’s national livestock committee chairman, from Killala, along with Michael Biggins, national chairman of the rural development committee, from Glencorrib, also extended their good wishes to the minister.

Mr. Walsh said the new minister will have a full agenda almost immediately where the EU Council are meeting this week when CAP budgets for the next seven years will be discussed, which is absolutely critical for Irish farming. “It is vital that the new minister stresses the importance of this to the Taoiseach who will be representing Ireland at the meeting,” he said.

Mr. Walsh added that it was a great honour to have the agricultural post given to Co. Mayo.
