Planning refused for new Mayo LIDL store
MAYO County Council has refused planning permission for a new LIDL store in Claremorris.
The discount retailer was seeking to construct a new supermarket at Kilcolman Road in the town.
A number of observations were submitted to planners raising issues such as its potential impact on the development of the town core.
The availability of a more central site at Chapel Lane was raised, which would help maintain the fabric of the town centre.
The proposal was for a single storey store measuring 2,268 sqm gross floor space with a nett retail sales area of 1,420 sqm, with car parking, signage, a free standing trolley bay and enclosure, refrigeration and air conditioning plant and equipment, roof mounted solar panels, cycle parking and pedestrian access.
It also included the construction of a vehicular access road to the N60/Kilcolman Road serving the proposed development.
A previous application by the company for a supermarket in the town was withdrawn last year.
