Proposal for playground communication boards for people with additional needs
A MOTION calling on Mayo County Council to erect communication boards in playgrounds and public parks for use by children and adults with additional needs throughout the Castlebar Municipal District has received full support.
Councillor Donna Sheridan said she put forward her motion after she saw the boards on social media in another county.
Where children and adults have communication difficulties, the boards would be of huge benefit to them and would really help make our playgrounds more inclusive, she said.
Councillor Ger Deere said work was taking place to make Castlebar an autism-friendly town and an initiative like this would make life so much easier for person with additional needs and their parents or carers.
MD head Iarla Moran said the initiative would be brought to the attention of the parks superintendent to incorporate it into new playgrounds and for existing ones.
