Provincial action for Mayo clubs

Provincial action takes centre stage today as four Mayo clubs are involved in Connaught quarterfinals.

In the T.P. Brennan Connaught Cup, Westport United host Ballinasloe Town while Castlebar Celtic travel to Salthill Devon, both games due to kick off at 2 p.m.

Westport go into the tie in very good form and can be confident of getting victory, though Ballinasloe will offer a stern test.

As for Celtic, with Jordan Loftus in the team they always have a chance – as his later winner in Athenry proved last Sunday – but Salthill are in fine form and can be expected to offer tough resistance.

It's a 2 p.m. start as well for both Glenhest Rovers at home to Ballymote and Kiltimagh Knock United away to Ballaghaderreen in the quarterfinals of the T.P. Brennan Connaught Shield.

Ballymote finished their season in Sligo/Leitrim unbeaten so there's a good bit on the line for them in Beltra this afternoon, where Glenhest are well capable of getting a result. So too are Kiltimagh Knock United, even if Ballaghaderreen are in decent form as well.

Closer to home, there's another local derby in store in the Calor Gas Premier Cup. Last night Westport United B just got the better of Castlebar Celtic B to earn their place in the semi-final. Today, Ballina Town B and Killala go to battle in a bid to join them there. Kick-off is at 2.30 p.m. in Belleek.
