Mayo school launches petition over proposed new building
A Mayo primary school has launched a petition calling on the Minister for Education Norma Foley to provide a site for a new building.
The Department of Education had promised Holy Trinity NS, Westport, a site and funding for the new school at the former Scoil Padraig site on Altamont Street in the town a number of years ago.
But it is now stalling on that commitment - and proposing that half of the limited site be given to build a new school for an Educate Together school.
Headlined 'Save Our Site! Minister, please, don't crush our little school', the petition states: “Minister for Education, please, provide a site for the recently established Educate Together School in Westport and STOP trying to squash that school onto Holy Trinity's site for its long overdue new primary school building.”
The existing Holy Trinity school in Westport is over 200 years old and it has been deemed not fit for purpose.
