Georgia crowned Miss Mayo 2020

GEORGIA Mellotte from Westport has been crowned Miss Mayo 2020.

She will now represent the county at the Miss Ireland finals.

The Theatre Royal in Castlebar hosted the grand final of the Sligo and Mayo selections for Miss Ireland on Sunday night. Taking place behind closed doors in keeping within current restrictions, 40 finalists took to the stage to be interviewed as to why they should should represent their county at Miss Ireland.

Orla Quinn (24), who works with Bank of Ireland, won the Miss Sligo 2020 title while 21-year-old Georgia took the Miss Mayo 2020 title.

Nutritional science student Georgia is no stranger to the competition with her sister Jessica representing Mayo in the 2013 Miss Ireland.

Both Orla and Georgia will now represent their counties at the final of Miss Ireland with full details to be announced soon. One overall winner will be crowned Miss Ireland and take part in the 2021 Miss World in the latter half of next year.

Hosted by Dinny Cronin and Galway Bay FM's Alan Murphy, the event was streamed to hundreds of people across Ireland, the US and Australia. Viewers were treated to a guest performance from singer Brendan Murray while the hard task of selecting the winners was down to the judges, blogger Patrick McLoughney, local business owner Siobhan Darocha and Catwalk Model Agency owner Mandy Maher.

“This year, with the current situation, we have had to adapt how we select entries, hold selections, etc. We are delighted with how the selection went adhering to guidelines and with viewers tuning into the stream from all over the world.”
