Gardaì investigating assault in Mayo town

Gardaí in Mayo are investigating an assault which has left a man in hospital in a critical condition.

The incident took place in a housing estate in Ballyhaunis over the weekend.

A man in his 20s was arrested at the scene and taken to Claremorris Garda Station.

He was scheduled to appear at Ballina Court today.

A man in his 40s who suffered head injuries is being treated in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin, where his condition is described as critical.
