Westport opticians secure national award
A practice manager from an opticians in Westport has won an award for key businesswomen in Mayo.
Karen Davitt, practice manager at Eye World on Market Lane, won the Transformative Employee prize at the Businesswomen of the Year Awards 2020 as part of Network Ireland.
Network Ireland is a progressive, dynamic organisation supporting the professional and personal development of women.
The members are a diverse group of women, ranging from budding entrepreneurs, SME owners, professionals, and leaders in indigenous and multinational organisations to non-profit, charities, arts and the public sector.
Karen joined Eye World Opticians in 2008 and manages the day-to-day running of the practice.
She specialises in frame styling and has a keen interest in fashion and the latest eyewear trends.
Karen said: “This award is testament to the support of my team members in creating a successful practice.
"Working within an industry alongside many other high achieving female professionals, it can be challenging to stand out.
"That is why winning this award, or even being nominated, is so special.

The Businesswomen of the Year Awards, which took place at Breaffy House Hotel, is one of the leading events of its type and celebrates women in industry.
It recognises outstanding talent, innovation and exceptional contributions made by individuals and teams across Ireland.
The focus of the award categories for 2020 was on professional women as a whole entity, looking at the totality of each professional and community work.
Karen’s category recognises exceptional employees who have initiated a transformation for their company allowing them to work better and achieve more.
