Passing of former Mayo Assistant Chief Fire Officer

The death has taken place of Austin Gannon, better known as Austie, "Kantara," Breaffy Road, and formerly of Moneen, Castlebar.

Son of the late Tom and Margaret (née McHale) Gannon, Moneen, he was dearly loved husband of Anne (née Daly) and father of Anne, Tommy, Joe, Olive, Alan and Karen and the late John and Michael.

He was brother of John (Leeds, UK), the late Pauline Murphy (McHale Road), Peggy Gray (Moneen) and Bridie Casey (London).

Austie will be sadly missed by his wife, daughters, sons, and their partners, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren, brother, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Austie, who was aged 85, worked with Mayo County Council for many years and was a former Assistant Chief Fire Officer of the Mayo Fire Service.

Removal takes place from his residence tomorrow (Monday) morning to St. Aloysius Church, Breaffy, for Requiem Mass at 11 a.m.

Interment takes place afterwards in the New Cemetery, Castlebar.
