No plans for extended mid-term school break this month - Health Minister

Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has confirmed there are no plans to extend the mid-term school break later this month to fight the spread of Covid-19.

Speaking on RTE Radio One today, he said the speculation is unfounded and there is general satisfaction that schools are running so well in the present circumstances.

"The prospect of a circuit break, as it's called, is not being considered right now. There isn't going to be a longer mid-term break for schools.

"We might go there at a later stage as Level 4 and Level 5 are built into our Living with Covid strategy.

"But it's not in mind at the present time. Level 3 can work - it has in a number of counties - and we can push back this virus ," he added.
