Mayo County Council facing its most difficult budget

MAYO County Council is facing into its most difficult ever budget next month.

The annual budget meeting is scheduled to take place on November 23.

Interim chief executive Peter Duggan said elected members are obliged to adopt a balanced budget.

“It probably will be the most difficult budget this authority will ever pass,” he advised members at their October meeting this week. “It is not going to be easy.”

Council income streams are down significantly due to Covid-19.

Councillor Paul McNamara said the should be looking to central government to plug the holes, not looking as a council at making cuts.

Mr. Duggan agreed that the authority needs support from central government.
