Western Brand plan for new chicken house approved

WESTERN Brand Group have been granted planning permission for a new replacement chicken house at their Greenwood, Ballyhaunis, base.

Mayo County Council has approved a plan to demolish two existing broiler chicken houses with a population of 24,000 birds and the construction of one replacement broiler chicken house with a population of 40,000 birds, together with all ancillary site works and services, including silos.

Documentation submitted to the planning department set out how the company wished to demolish to two existing houses due to health and safety concerns and construct the new house, which will have a lesser carbon footprint and be more environmentally friendly.

Observations from three local residents were submitted to the council concerning the development.
