Progress on Roonagh Pier investment plan
Major refurbishment works at Roonagh Pier, Louisburgh, has been progressed to tender stage by Mayo County Council.
An investment of €525,000 is to be put into four piers and harbours in Mayo.
The works at Roonagh Pier will involve the remediation and refurbishment of the existing facility.
This is part of a €3.1 million package announced in May of this year to assist in the ongoing economic and social development in our rural coastal communities.
Welcoming the news, Deputy Alan Dillon: “I recently visited Clare Island and met with residents who have been calling for works on the pier which will provide safe harbour on the mainland.
"The future development of industry and tourism on these Mayo islands depends on the provision of proper infrastructure, so this tender is very much welcome and I look forward to seeing the works underway.”
