Mayo senator appointed chair of Seanad Brexit Committee

Mayo Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers has today been appointed as chair of the Seanad Brexit Committee by the members of Seanad Éireann.

Senator Chambers commented: “I am delighted and honoured to be appointed chairperson of the Seanad Brexit Committee.

"This is a cross-party committee that will work together on solutions to the many challenges and issues arising from Brexit.

“The work of this committee starts now.

"It is essential to take every available opportunity to reinforce to stakeholders, particularly in the business community, the urgency of preparations for the end of the transition period.

“Although the December 31st deadline which marks the end of the transition period is looming, this certainly does not conclude the work and policy required to provide supports around Brexit preparedness, transitions and post Brexit realities.

"Irrespective of the outcome of the ongoing negotiations, the end of the transition period will bring substantial and lasting change to this Island.

“Senators Frances Black, Malcolm Byrne, Timmy Dooley, Robbie Gallagher, Tim Lombard, Vincent P. Martin, Michael McDowell, Niall Ó Donnghaile, Joe O’Reilly, Pauline O’Reilly and Mark Wall complete the committee.

"They will all bring their own unique experience and understanding to this committee.

"Working together, I am confident we can deliver meaningful change and supports in a post Brexit Ireland."
