Changes to Mayo fire brigade call-out fees

THE fees imposed for call-outs to domestic fires by the Mayo fire brigade service are changing next year.

The cost for a chimney fire is increasing to €200, but the charge for other house fires is being reduced – from €750 per hour to €375.

Councillors, at the annual budget meeting of Mayo County Council, were told this will mean people who have small fires will pay less.

Overall, it is anticipated that it will be neutral in terms of the money that it brings in.

The annual report set out how the charges are designed to provide a more balance charge structure for domestic incidents to reflect the difficulty in dealing with chimney fires, appliance (e.g. toaster) or fire alarms and building fires.
