€71m paid under Basic Payment Scheme to Mayo farmers

SOME 11,097 herds in Mayo have been paid €71,482,193 to date under the Basic Payment Scheme.

And the balancing payments under the 2020 Basic Payment Scheme (BPS) and Greening have now commenced, Deputy Michael Ring has confirmed.

In mid-October, the 70% advance payments under the BPS commenced issuing to all farmers. This year saw over 97% of eligible farmers receiving an advance payment in the first pay run.

Said Deputy Ring: “I understand that the 30% balancing payments under the BPS have now commenced on schedule.

“Also, payments under the 2020 National Reserve and the Young Farmers Scheme will commence alongside payment of the 2020 BPS balancing payment. Balancing payments under the Areas of Natural Constraints (ANC) scheme are scheduled to commence next week.

“These payments are vitally important to support all farmers and particularly young farmers and new entrants. This will ensure the viability of farms for the next generation.”
