Aldi announces plans to build new Mayo store
Aldi Ireland today announced it will be bringing the best prices in Irish retail and up to 30 new permanent jobs to Ballyhaunis. In addition, 50 jobs will be created during construction of the proposed new store.
The great news for Ballyhaunis shoppers comes as Aldi will shortly submit a planning application for the new store to Mayo County Council. Aldi has reached an agreement to purchase the centrally located nine-acre greenfield site on Main Street in the town centre to build the new 1,315 square metre store.
The environmentally-friendly store will be powered by 100% green electricity and will feature solar panels on the roof, furthering Aldi’s strong sustainability credentials. The store will be constructed in Aldi’s award-winning Project Fresh design.
There will be ample parking available for customers, whether cycling or driving to the new store, in the form of 101 car parking spaces and 10 bike parking spaces. Aldi will also be investing in the future of Ballyhaunis through the provision of four electric vehicle charging points outside the store.
Aldi already has four trading stores in Co. Mayo, with the most recent store opening in Belmullet in August 2020. It has plans to open a store in Ballina, and their existing stores are located in Castlebar, Claremorris and Ballinrobe.
Commenting, Colin Breslin, Aldi regional managing director, said: “We can’t wait to come to Ballyhaunis and bring our amazing prices to even more customers across Co. Mayo.
“Our dedicated customers know that we won’t be beaten on price, and we are committed to providing the best value possible to shoppers. Our Swap & Save campaign reminds shoppers about the saving that can be generated by swapping their weekly shop to Aldi.”
Aldi’s Co. Mayo stores participate in its national partnership with FoodCloud, donating surplus food to local charities daily. The Mayo stores have donated almost 18,000 meals to charity to date. Each store is also part of Aldi’s Community Grants network, with Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation, Western Care Association and 9th Mayo Claremorris Scouts Group availing of a bursary grant in recent times.
