Councillor wants N26 to be top priority

THE N26 must be the priority road for upgrade in the county – that was the message from a Mayo County Council roads and transportation strategic policy (SPC) committee meeting.

The priority given to the route, servicing north Mayo, was raised twice this week at council meetings by Councillor Seamus Weir who proposed it be put 'top of the list'.

The member said he would not support the new Mayo development plan unless its standing on the priority list was confirmed.

His call was supported by SPC colleagues, with Councillor Cyril Burke saying the N26 was a 'critical' part of the county's infrastructure.

Head of roads Paul Dolan said a meeting has taken place in the past week with Transport Infrastructure Ireland who were under no illusion as to the priority being given to the N26.
