Mary's 10k raises €5,500 for Swinford palliative care services

A VIRTUAL 10k event held in October has provided a welcome funding boost for the palliative care services in Swinford District Hospital.

Mary Mahon from Purranes, Hollymount, undertook the 10k at Claremorris athletics track as part of the first ever virtual VHI Women's Mini Marathon having been nominated Mayo Ambassador for the event.

She chose Swinford District Hospital's palliative care services as her charity to say 'thanks' for the love and care they showed her late brother Michael and their family.

On December 4, Mary handed over a cheque for the funds she raised - €5,500 - to the staff in Swinford Hospital.

The funds, she said, will go towards providing exceptional care and hospitality for other cancer sufferers and their families.
