Birrane signs on for another year with Athlone Town

BALLINA native Mark Birrane has penned a new deal with League of Ireland First Division side Athlone Town.

The 22-year-old, a former Ballina Town player, enjoyed a memorable run to the FAI Cup semi-finals with The Town, before being on the receiving end of a heavy defeat to eventual winners Dundalk.

Birrane, who also played with Sligo Rovers Under-17 side, will be joined on the books by another Mayoman Micheál Schlingermann, who confirmed his deal with the Lissywollen club a number of weeks ago.
