Call for Mayo construction sites to be fully secured during lockdown

AN ELECTED member of Mayo County Council has called on all construction site operators who have to close sites from this Friday evening due to new Covid restrictions to ensure these sites are fully secured from a health and safety perspective.

Castlebar-based Councillor Ger Deere said if these sites are not properly sealed-off it could lead to children entering these sites unsupervised.

He stated: "This has the potential to lead to serious injuries or fatalities.

"There is also a need to make sure that materials and equipment are well secured in case we experience stormy weather conditions.

"During the first lockdown last March this was a serious issue and I am appealing to all involved on these sites to make them safe and to monitor them on a regular basic."

If any member of the public has any concerns with any of these sites please contact Councillor Deere at 087- 7724419 or the Health and Safety Authority at 1890289389.
