Eco Eye focuses on Mayo's Lough Carra

THE Last Lake is the title of this Tuesday's Eco Eye programme, which will be broadcast on RTÉ One at 7 p.m., writes Tom Gillespie.

It features the work of the Lough Carra Catchment Association who have as their goal to restore, protect and conserve the ecological integrity and its lakeshore habitats and to ensure the quality of the drinking water in the 4,000 acre marl lake.

The association was formed in April 2018 with the aim of promoting and encouraging a truly sustainable and environmentally sensitive land use practices in the catchment and promoting ways of reducing nutrient inputs into the lough from all sources, including agricultural, forestry and septic tanks.

The voluntary association is also pursuing methods to prevent any form of pollution in the lake.
