Kilmovee Shamrocks LGFA getting in gear for 2021

Kilmovee Shamrocks LGFA conducted their annual general meeting virtually on January 28 last in view of the current coronavirus pandemic.

Volunteering has become a more onerous effort, with greater responsibility and accountability than ever before, but Kilmovee LGFA Club had many enthusiastic members of the community step up once again to ensure the workload was shared across many volunteers. Their commitment and contribution was warmly welcomed by all in attendance.

The meeting heard that the objective of the club in 2021 is the continuation of the promotion at local level of the ethos of the Ladies Gaelic Football Association, and in doing that to promote an inclusive culture that welcomes all abilities engage in our club activities.

During 2020, Kilmovee LGFA had many reasons to be proud on the field as all teams were competitive in their respective age groups and each player, coach and parent stepped up to the mark, from filling out health questionnaires to constant sanitising of hands and equipment as well as adhering to many other health guidelines.

In Kilmovee, like many communities, the local GAA club is the fulcrum around which everything happens. Club members at the AGM recalled how challenging the past 12 months have been due to Covid-19 restrictions but, in addition, how the club remained the epicentre of the community.

On the field, 2020 saw club being crowned county intermediate champions for the first time in 17 years, which was a culmination of hard work and dedication by club officers, managers, trainers, players, sponsors and loyal supporters.

Club members acknowledged the night the bonfires were lit at the local crossroads, and how these celebrations lifted everyone’s spirits and how the success of the club created connections between parents, volunteers, sponsors, managers/trainers, players, and the wider community.

Club members also remembered all those who have lost loved ones in 2020 and those that are sick at this time.

Over the coming year, Kilmovee LGFA hopes to announce initiatives that will further support all club members from the Under 8s right up to the senior panel.
