Snow taking hold in areas across Mayo

Many parts of Mayo have witnessed significant falls of snow this evening.

Further show falls are expected over the coming hours, leaving hazardous driving conditions in their wake.

Met Éireann is forecasting accumulations of up to 5cm in some areas, higher over mountains.

However, rain is due to spread over the west and south later tonight, Met. Éireann added.

A nationwide snow/ice warning remains in place until 8 a.m. tomorrow.

The indications are there will be further snow falls over the weekend.
