Mayo water park could be up and running this summer
AN aqua park proposed for Lough Conn could be operational this summer.
Mayo County Council is seeking expressions of interest from adventure and/or outdoor pursuits companies who will provide a high-quality adventure offering/service at the lakeside on Lough Conn for a three- to four-month period during summer 2021.
Councillor Michael Loftus, on his social media, said this was very welcome news for Crossmolina, and he thanked Declan Turnbull, head of Ballina Municipal District, Denis Strong in the National Parks and Wildlife Service, and Padraig Traynor in fisheries for their help.
The project is the brainchild of the Crossmolina Vision 2025.
Mayo County Council has, he said, over several years, developed areas throughout the county as high-quality recreational and amenity locations for the social and economic benefit of the county.
The council is interested in developing, in association with the Crossmolina community, a water park at the Pier area on Lough Conn.
This would attract visitors and support tourism, enterprises and employment.
The local authority has now sought expressions of interest, which should include details of the company’s proposal and ambition for the location.
Written submissions should be addressed to Declan Turnbull, Mayo County Council, Civic Offices, Arran Place, Ballina, or be sent by email to dturnbull@mayococo.ie by 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 9.
