Mayo communities mourn passing of young mother

The death has taken place of Christina Irwin (née Tuohy), Rosserk, Ballina, and formerly of Breaffy, Castlebar.

A member of a widely known and respected Mayo GAA family, she died peacefully in the care of her loved ones.

Breaffy GAA Club has extended sympathy to the Tuohy and Irwin families on their loss.

"Her passing has evoked immense sadness and sorrow in her native Breaffy and surrounding area," a club statement outlined.

In her mid-50s, she was predeceased by her parents, Tom and Claire, and her father-in-law John.

Christina is deeply regretted by her loving husband Gabriel, former Mayo goalkeeper and All-Star, their family Claire, Jack, Ailbhe and Frank, her mother-in-law Kitty Irwin, brothers Seamus and Tommie, sisters Mary, Claire O'Dea, Helen Kilbane and Bríd Tuohy-Ward, godmother, aunt Kathleen, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, relatives, work colleagues and a wide circle of friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Funeral cortége will arrive at St. Muredach’s Cathedral, Ballina, on Monday morning for Mass of the Resurrection at 11.30 a.m. with burial afterwards in Leigue Cemetery, Ballina.

Funeral Mass will be live streamed at ballinaparish.org. Due to current restrictions and guidelines Christina’a Funeral Mass will be private to family only (10 people).
