Burst watermain affects 6,000 customers in north Mayo
IRISH Water will be carrying out repairs to a burst watermain this evening, which is affecting supply to approximately 6,000 customers in Ballina town and surrounding areas.
Repair crews will be carrying out the emergency works to the burst pipe on McDermott Street this evening and tonight to reduce the impact on customers.
Ger Greally, Irish Water’s asset operations lead, explained: “The burst has resulted in reduced pressure for customers in Ballina town and surrounding areas.
“Water restrictions will be in place from 8 p.m. tonight (Monday) until 2 a.m. tomorrow to allow the emergency works to take place to fix the burst pipe.
“Irish Water is asking customers in Ballina and surrounding areas to be mindful of how they use water until the burst has been repaired and customers are urged to conserve water wherever possible. Simple water conservation efforts can have a big impact on reducing demand on the supply. There are tips on how to conserve water in your home on the Irish Water website at https://www.water.ie/conservation/. However it is important that people continue to follow the HSE guidance on hand washing.”
Irish Water and Mayo County Council would like to thank customers for their patience as repairs are carried out to safeguard the water supply in Ballina town.
