Death of Padraic Melvin, a passionate Mayo GAA supporter in Dublin

THE death took place on Saturday last after a short illness of Padraic Melvin, Portmarnock, Dublin, and late of Ballina.

Padraic, who was blessed with an endearing personality, had a wide circle of friends.

He was particularly active in the golfing scene and was also a passionate Mayo GAA supporter.

His involvement with the Past Pupils' Golf Society of St. Muredach’s College, Ballina, resulted in thousands of euros being raised over the years for the Mayo GAA Team Training Fund as well as for cancer care.

He was also very much involved with the Mayo Association Dublin.

And while he spent most of his life in Dublin, he always maintained his strong family bonds with Mayo and Ballina, in particular, where he grew up, having attended the Quay National School and St. Muredach’s College, Ballina.

He was also a great family man and was deeply devoted to his wife Joan, sons Darragh and Patrick, daughter Gillian, son-in-law and daughters-in-law and his 10 grandchildren, who gave him great joy and pride in his later years.

He will be sadly missed by his brothers Eddie (Dublin) James (Ballina) and John (Castlebar), sisters Patricia MacHale (Dublin), Helen Boland (Enniscrone) and Marie Claire Melvin-Gallagher (Ballina).

Deepest sympathy is tendered to the Melvin family on their loss.

Padraic’s remains will repose in Staffords Funeral Home, Portmarnock, tomorrow Tuesday, from 3 and 4 p.m.

Funeral Mass takes place on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St Anne’s Church, Portmarnock.

It will be live streamed at: http://www.portmarnockparish.ie/

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
