Salmon Weir bridge over River Moy reopens

The Salmon Weir bridge has now reopened following the completion of repair works.

The news was confirmed this morning by local Councillor Mark Duffy.

He stated: "It's welcome news, especially with weather like we are having this weekend."

The bridge was closed last year to allow essential repairs to be carried out.

A Mayo County Council engineer's report established there was an issue with tensions bars and over 20 of them needed to be replaced.

The reopening is welcome news for residents of the Moy Heights and Childers Heights estates, in particularly, as they used it as a shortcut to and from the town centre.
