New walking links included in north Mayo town's 'destination' project
NEW walking links and campervan facilities are being examined as part of the Belmullet Tourism Destination Town project.
As work continues on the project, local councillors were told that tenders have been sought for wayfinding and interpretation signage in the town.
This involved a plan for a new signage scheme for Belmullet and identifying key locations for stories to be presented to highlight to heritage and history of the town and all about local attractions and activities in the wider Erris area.
Tourism officer Anna Connor told a municipal district meeting this week that the project includes proposals for three campervan facilities at the harbour area along with a walking link that connects from the harbour back up to the Broadhaven Bay Hotel.
Mayo County Council will be meeting with land owners in the coming weeks to try and get agreement for that link.
They are also in the early stages of working with Udarás na Gaeltachta and Ionad Deirbhle and community representatives in Blacksod around the development of a coastal trail linking Blacksod to Belmullet town.
