Call for new crossing on Castlebar's Newport Road

THE need for a new pedestrian crossing on the Newport Road coming out of Castlebar has been highlighted by Councillor Ger Deere.

A lot of people are crossing the road at the point for the laneway to the castle at Lough Lannagh, and also for going to St. Gerald's College, he told a local area meeting.

There is a crossing but that is further out the road near the entrance to the cemetery.

Councillor Deere said he has been receiving a lot of representations about the need for a crossing at this location, particularly for people using the lake amenity.
