Anger as residents of Mayo estate see public health problem return

The issue of sewerage overflowing from manholes at Lakeshore Drive in Castlebar has returned.

Councillor Ger Deere said Irish Water gave a commitment last November to resolve the problem.

But, again over the weekend after heavy rain, it happened again.

He stated: "A commitment was given to start works in the first quarter of 2021, but this has not happened.

"This is a serious public health issue and also an environmental one as the sewerage is seeping into nearby Saleen Lake.

"I have contacted Irish Water again today to ascertain when works will start."
