Initiative to transport people to Mayo vaccination centre
LOCAL Link and Mayo County Council are working together to bring people to the Covid-19 vaccination centre in Castlebar.
The move was hailed as a 'great initiative' by Councillor Michael Loftus at the monthly council meeting yesterday (Monday) where he urged anyone having difficulty getting to the centre in Breaffy House Resort to connect with them if they need transport.
A number of people had contacted him about how to get to Breaffy, he said, adding that a county the size of Mayo needs more vaccination centres - in Belmullet and Ballina.
The light at the end of the Covid tunnel was commented on by the cathaoirleach, Councillor Richard Finn.
Case numbers are reducing, the vaccine is being rolled out, and while the pandemic is not over yet, there is light at the end of the tunnel, he commented.
Revealing how he received his vaccine in the past week, Councillor Finn was full of praise for the staff at the vaccine centre at Breaffy House Resort. He received Astrazeneca and didn't mind which vaccine he got as long as he got one.
Councillor Finn spoke about the efficiency, kindness and professional and orderly manner in which the vaccine was being distributed at the Castlebar centre.
And, again, he paid tribute to all frontline workers in the county for their unknown sacrifices over the course of the pandemic, and offered sympathy to those who have suffered the death of loved ones.
Interim chief executive Peter Duggan said he believes the storm clouds are lifting and as each week passes the light is getting brighter.
He urged people to keep up the advice around hand washing, sanitising and cough etiquette.
