Family and friends remember Mayo mum Anne Mooney with charity walk
ON the first anniversary of her death, the family of the late Anne Mooney are holding a remembrance fundraising walk in Achill.
The dedicated mum died on May 28, 2020, at the age of 48, leaving her family and friends shattered.
Sarah Heraty has set up a GoFundMe campaign as Anne's family and friends hope to not only keep her name and memory alive, but to also continue to help and care for people as Anne always did.
They will hold a 24-hour walk from Saturday, June 5, starting at 12 p.m., to Sunday, June 6, at 12 p.m., on the 4k Dooagh Loop in Achill. They invite anyone who would like to donate an hour of their time on the June bank holiday to walk, run or cycle a loop during the 24 hours.
Funds raised will be donated to Pieta and the Family Centre in Castlebar. The link to donate is:
The page sets out what a special person Anne was to her family: 'Our mother, she was the most kind-hearted, self-less, beautiful person who dedicated her whole life to her children, family, and friends. Mum never thought of herself, she always focused on caring for others, making sure their needs were met before her own.
'We will never be able to thank her for everything she has done for us, but we can continue to make her proud and keep her memory alive. By doing this fundraiser, not only will we be keeping her name and memory alive, but she will also be continuing to help and care for people as she always did. Anne Mooney really was an angel in disguise on this earth and her kind-heartedness and good nature never ever went unnoticed.
'The support we have received from such a fantastic community time and time again has been outstanding. We have no doubt we will see a few of you there, to support us one more time. Knowing how much our mother was thought of in this community and how much she was loved has been a huge comfort to us over the past year.'
