People are cheesed off with objections
by Auld Stock
DO you know something?
This little country of ours isn’t half right.
Take the case of the cheese manufacturing plant proposed for the Kilkenny/Waterford border.
The local authority, after a thorough examination, unanimously granted planning permission for the factory, a joint venture between Glanbia and a Dutch firm.
A number of stringent conditions were written into the planning permission.
Fair enough.
Lovely hurling, as they might say down that side of the country.
Not quite.
Taisce immediately jumped in and slapped an objection to the cheese making plant.
People are cheesed off with objections to planning in this country.
Thousands of jobs are being lost through objections.
A spokesman for Taisce says the objections were put forward to protect the environment.
In conscience, Taisce had to take this course of action, she stated.
Glanbia is one of the best known and most respected firms in Europe and provide lots of jobs in Kilkenny and elsewhere. Their workers are paid top rate and have excellent working conditions.
Surely to God this is the type of industry we are crying out for in this country.
What happens down south is important to Mayo and other parts of our country.
Goodness knows, we are crying out for jobs for the young people of our country and we should do everything possible to facilitate developers.
The Taoiseach, Micheál Martin, has taken the side of Glanbia, and is perfectly right in doing so.
Three cheers for the Corkman.
