Traffic congestion an issue at Mayo beaches
TRAFFIC congestion at Mayo beaches has been highlighted by a Westport councillor.
The roads leading to many of them are too narrow, Councillor Christy Hyland told a local area meeting, resulting in serious congestion.
The situation was exacerbated by people parking in lay-bys along the routes, making it 'chaotic' with people trying to get in and out with a single line of traffic.
His colleague Councillor John O'Malley said some people in the Louisburgh area could not get up to their houses at the weekend because of the manner in which people had parked on the road.
There is, he said, no traffic management on the beaches.
