Mayo food businesses implored to open bathroom facilities to public

BUSINESSES in Mayo with toilet facilities have been asked to make them available to the public.

The issue was raised at a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting today (Wednesday).

Councillor Michael Burke said a lot of places have opened in the last couple of weeks for takeaway food, with outside dining also now set to resume.

However, he knew of one case where a person queued for food with a child who was 'in a bad way' to use the bathroom but they were not allowed do so.

It was disgraceful, he said, that a big operator would not provide a toilet for a child.

It's a problem around the county, he said, where some premises are not allowing people use their facilities.

People should be advised, he said, that where they have facilities they should allow people to use them, and not having to drag home a child in a panic.

Councillor Neil Cruise agreed toilets should be made available especially in a situation as outlined.

Director of services John Magee said access to toilets is an issue in the county and anything they could do to encourage business owners to make their facilities available would be welcomed.
