New classrooms for Newport school proceed to tender

NEWPORT National School has received approval to proceed to tender for additional accommodation.

It includes two 80m² classrooms with en-suite toilets and a WC for assisted users along with the conversion of a mainstream classroom into an ASD room.

Deputy Michael Ring was pleased to learn that Newport National School has been sanctioned approval to proceed to tender for this additional accommodation.

“It will greatly enhance the facilities at the school. It is excellent to see progress being made with this approval,” he commented.

Deputy Alan Dillon said the extension and partial refurbishment will be of enormous benefit for the roughly 230 boys and girls attending the school.

He said: “I particularly welcome the conversion of an existing classroom into an ASD room.

“I wish their principal, Brigid Chambers, and the board of management every success with the project.”
