Proposed Bohola village enhancement plans revealed

PLANS for a village enhancement scheme in Bohola are to be put out to the local community for their views.

The aim is to enhance the village green, enticing passing visitors to stop, and to have a pedestrian/cycling friendly route that leads down to the church.

It also includes a 'winding wall', which would be unique to Bohola.

Local councillors gave a positive response to the proposals, which were presented to them at a Swinford-Claremorris Municipal District meeting today.

The next step is to engage with the community in a public consultation process.

Matthew Stevens said the council want to create a design that will enhance the village green and entice passers-by to stop, while making the green a quality village centre for local people.

The former N5 running through the village feels very much like a national route and they wanted to make it pedestrian friendly, with widened footpaths and safe cycleway leading to the church and local houses.

The winding stone wall will lead from the N5 up to the village centre, featuring strategic planting, to give a different view of the parkland area for each season of the year.

Councillor John Caulfield agreed the village needed a centre point that would catch the eye as people go through there and what was proposed would add to that.

Aesthetically it looked nice, agreed Councillor Michael Smyth, who said businesses must be accommodated with adequate parking, while it was important to have community engagement too.
