Councillors pay tribute to the late Pauline Murray, Charlestown

THE monthly meeting of Mayo County Council adjourned early today (Monday) as a mark of respect to the late Pauline Murray, Charlestown.

She was wife of Councillor Gerry Murray, to whom sympathy was extended along with daughters Michelle and Majella and the extended Murray and Lavan families.

Pauline Murray (nee Lavan), who was a native of Kiltimagh, was recalled today as a being a true lady who was much loved in her local community.

Leading the tributes, the cathaoirleach, Councillor Richard Finn, said her passing was a great loss to her family and the people of Charlestown.

The life of a political wife, he noted, was not easy but she took it in her stride, and she was much loved.

Councillor John Caulfield said Pauline ran the family pub with Gerry for many years and was always on the front line with a sympathetic ear for whatever issues constituents came with. She was always available to help and the word being used to describe her since her passing was that she was a lady.

Councillor Tom Connolly said Pauline was a lovely person and her passing was an awful loss for her family.

With all members and management associated with the tributes and expressions of sympathy, a minute's silence was observed in her memory, with the meeting adjourning early as a mark of respect.
