€755,577 for nine Mayo groups for live stage performances this summer

Nine groups in Mayo are set to share €755,577 funding under the Live Performance Support Scheme (LPSS) 2021.

Welcoming the news Deputy Michael Ring stated: “This funding under the LPSS will assist commercial venues, producers and promoters to plan live performances across the county over the summer months.

“This scheme is part of a €50 million suite of measures to support the live entertainment sector.

"The scheme was developed in consultation with the sector, the main objective of this scheme is to provide significant employment and wellbeing opportunities across the live entertainment sector and will support the continued generation of high quality artistic output for the general public”.

“The scheme aims to support live performances particularly where capacity for live attendance is restricted due to Covid-19, and where funding will make live performances viable or alternatively make them available online if audiences cannot attend due to restrictions."

In a statement, Deputy Alan Dillon said: “The allocation of the Live Performance Support Scheme to nine organisations in Mayo will be an injection of €755,577 for a sector that has suffered greatly during the pandemic.

"I know this funding will assist in the employment of performers, artists, technicians, creative and performance support staff across the sector, bringing much-needed employment to many who have not had work for many months.

"It will be great to be able to look forward to some fabulous artistic and musical output for which our county is well known.

"Equally important, it will be enjoyed by so many who have missed live music.”
